چکیده

In a previous publication (1) methods were described which permit the quantitative estimation of the action of y-glutamyl transpeptidase upon glutathione. In the present report these methods are employed to study the influence of amino acids. pcptides, and other compounds upon the reaction. In addition, we present the results of attempts to account for all the main products formed in the reaction in both the presence and absence of the amino acid, arginine. Data on the distribution of y-glutamyl transpeptidase activity in a variety of organs and animal species are also given.

Glutathione: interorgan translocation, turnover, and metabolism.

Glutathione is translocated out of cells; cells that have membrane-bound gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase can utilize translocated glutathione, whereas glutathione exported from cells that do not have appreciable transpeptidase enters the blood plasma. Glutathione is removed from the plasma by the kidney and other organs that have transpeptidase. Studies in which mice and rats were treated with bu...

Serine-borate complex as a transition-state inhibitor of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase.

gamma-Glutamyl transpeptidase, a membrane-bound enzyme, functions in the gamma-glutamyl cycle to catalyze utilization of glutathione. It has been postulated that the amino-acid-stimulated utilization of glutathione by gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase reflects an aspect of amino acid translocation. As one approach to the effective in vivo inhibition of this enzyme, the inhibition of the enzyme by L...

Metabolism and function of glutathione: an overview.

Many functions have been ascribed to glutathione, a tripeptide that has been known for almost a century.* Glutathione is found in virtually all mammalian cells, usually in substantial concentrations (0.510 mM). The concentration of glutathione in extracellular fluids such as blood plasma is in the micromolar range. The intracellular concentration of glutathione exceeds by far that of glutathion...

Ratio Of Ast / alt And Serum Gamma Glutamyl Transferase ( ggt ) Activity In Chronic Alcoholics And Acute Viral

Introduction-Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT), also known as Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase, is a micorsomal enzyme with a wide tissue distribution. GGT is present in the cell membranes of many tissues, including the kidneys, bile duct, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen, heart, brain, and seminal vesicles.[1]It is involved in the transfer of amino acids across the cellular [2] [3] membrane and leuko...

Evidence for carrier-mediated transport of glutathione across the blood-brain barrier in the rat.

Information on the origin of brain glutathione and the possibility of its transport from blood to brain is limited. We found a substantial uptake of 35S-labeled glutathione by the rat brain using the carotid artery injection technique. The brain uptake index of glutathione with and without an irreversible gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase inhibitor, acivicin, was similar. No significant differences...
